For most practical writing you need to focus on the facts rather than on your opinions. Provide information that backs up what you are saying.

Don't say:

Do say:

"I think I'd be very good at the job."

"I have the skills and experience required to do the job."

Using the right words

If you are writing for or to someone you don't know, or don't know well, (like a business or an organisation) you need to use formal language.

Don't say:

Do say:

I'm writing about the cock-up you made. Thanks.
I am putting my C.V. in

I'm writing to complain about .. Thank you
I am enclosing my CV."
