Your letter must be formally laid out (according to the accepted rules). You must use formal language (no slang etc).

What job you´re applying for and where you saw it advertised
Why you want the job, or that type of job
Why you want to work for that company or that type of company
Why you´re right for the job (give evidence and highlight points in your CV)
Where and when you can be contacted
