Broadcasting

Broadcasting media includes:

Like any industry, there are many jobs available in the broadcasting media - both those the public get to know about and the 'behind the scenes' roles:

Programme Planners have the ideas for a new programme.

Researchers find information about the subject of a programme.

Journalists and reporters write and/or present the information given on radio or television.

Writers write scripts that they are either commissioned to produce, or send in for consideration.

Editors:

Gather information - either printed or in the form of film footage or sound - from various sources - like writers, journalists and researchers
Check information for mistakes, including technical faults and law infringement.
Cut out any irrelevant or unnecessary information
Either add any missed information themselves, or commission someone else to do it
Decide what is in radio and television programmes and the order in which items are run.

Sometimes the two parts of this job are given to different people. You may have a Commissioning Editor, who gathers the information and an Editor who checks the work.

Presenters present the programme to the general public, either visually or orally.

Broadcast Assistants support the work of others in various departments.
